Delan Jinapriya  BSc, MD, FRCSC

Medical Director

Galen Eye Centre Assistant Professor Queen’s University Department of Ophthalmology Dr. Jinapriya received his BSc (Hons) in Kinesiology and Health Sciences, specializing in Human Physiology in 1999 from York University, followed by his MD from Queen’s University in 2003.  He completed his residency training in Ophthalmology from Queen’s University obtaining his FRCSC in 2008.   He then spent a year at the University of Toronto, under the mentorship of Dr. G.E. Trope and Dr. Y.M. Buys and completed a fellowship in Adult Comprehensive and Surgical Glaucoma.  In 2009 he received a full time academic faculty position in the Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University and held his practice in the hospital setting until November 2012.  In December 2012 he opened the Galen Eye Centre.  He holds hospital privileges at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Lennox and Addington Country Hospital. In addition to his passion for clinical and surgical practice, he enjoys training future Ophthalmologists and making contributions to the field of Ophthalmology through glaucoma curriculum development and clinical research.  He established the Galen Eye Centre to maximize the contributions he can make clinically, surgically and academically.

Stephanie Wood BSc, MD, FRCSC

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Dr. Stephanie Wood received her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Biology at Dalhousie University where she performed honours research in the Optic Nerve and Retina Research Laboratory. She completed her Medical Degree with distinction from Dalhousie University, then began a Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto and completed her training at the University of Calgary. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2013. Dr. Wood worked as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist in Calgary at the Southern Alberta Eye Centre and Bow River Medical Consultants prior to relocating to Kingston. She joins the Queen’s Department of Ophthalmology and joins the Galen Eye Centre to provide general ophthalmic care and complement the Eye Centre’s primary eye care.

Krishna Rao MD, FRCSC

Ophthalmologist

Dr. Krishna Rao received his MD with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996. He then completed a five year residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Saskatchewan and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2001, after which he completed a one year of fellowship in adult glaucoma at the Glaucoma Institute, St. Louis, Missouri under the mentorship of Dr. Allan E. Kolker, MD. Dr. Rao has worked previously in private practice in Winnipeg, Manitoba and more recently (2010-2018) as community based Ophthalmologist with Quinte Health Care in Trenton, Ontario. He joined the Galen Eye Centre to provide general adult ophthalmology and glaucoma care. Dr. Rao is also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology with the Department of Ophthalmology, Queen’s University.

Harmanjit Singh MD

Ophthalmologist

Dr. Singh completed his Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Segment Surgery Fellowship with Dr. Ike Ahmed at the University of Toronto in 2014 and his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Montreal from 2008-2013. Dr. Singh is leaving his full time attending staff position at the University of Montreal to join the Galen Eye Centre and Queen’s University in October 2019. He performs a wide range of surgeries ranging from cataract surgery to all glaucoma surgeries, including MIGS and also does more complex anterior segment surgeries such as iris repairs, dislocated phakic lenses, dislocated IOLs, and aphakic IOL placement (sulcus sutured and Artisan IOLs). Dr. Singh will be seeing patients at the Galen Eye Centre starting in October 2019. He will also hold a clinic at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Vasudha Gupta MD

Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Dr. Vasudha Gupta is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and retinal diseases specialist. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. Thereafter, she completed a fellowship in Medical Retina at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Gupta performs cataract surgery and holds expertise in retinal diseases particularly diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vascular diseases offering treatment including laser and intra-vitreal injections. Dr. Gupta has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, to name a few. Dr. Gupta has also been involved in international eye missions in developing countries and her work has been recognized through various accolades over the years. Her community and volunteer work has also been well recognized and was televised at the Quebec National Assembly in 2020.

Wei Sim MD

Fellow 2023-2024

Dr. Wei Sim completed his MD at Queen’s University in 2018. He then went on to pursue residency in Ophthalmology at the University Ottawa, receiving his FRCSC in 2023. He is currently completing his fellowship at Queen’s in medical and surgical glaucoma with Dr. Delan Jinapriya, Dr. Harmanjit Singh, and Dr. Robert Campbell.

Maritza Quintero

Glaucoma Fellow 2023-2024

Dr. Maritza Quintero completed her MD at Romulo Gallegos University in Venezuela 2008. She then went on to pursue her residency in Ophthalmology in 2013. Dr. Quintero completed her glaucoma fellowship in caracas Venezuela in 2015. She completed Surgical Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School, Boston US (2021-2022) She has completed her fellowship at Queen’s in medical and surgical glaucoma with Dr. Delan Jinapriya, Dr. Harmanjit Singh, and Dr. Robert Campbell.

Soumya Podury MD

Glaucoma Fellow 2021-2023

Dr. Soumya Podury is a glaucoma and cataract specialist and holds a full-time academic position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute. She completed her Medical school at Gandhi Medical College, India and residency in ophthalmology at Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research foundation Chennai, India. Thereafter she pursued a 2-year medical and surgical Fellowship in Glaucoma under the mentorship of Dr. Jinapriya, Dr. Singh and Dr. Campbell at Queen’s University. She is actively involved in resident teaching and training and is the Director for Medical Student Electives at the University of Ottawa and Assistant Director uOttawa Surgical Simulation Centre.

Salim Korban MD

Glaucoma Fellow 2020-2021

Dr. Salim Korban completed his MD in 2015 at McGill University with the Mark Cohen distinction award in Ophthalmology. He went on to pursue his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Montreal from 2015-2020. Currently, Dr. Korban is completing a fellowship in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma at Queens University under the mentorship of Dr. Delan Jinapriya, Dr. Rob Campbell, and Dr. Harmanjit Singh. He works at the Galen eye center and holds hospital privileges in Hotel Dieu Hospital and Kingston General Hospital.

Timothy Ratzlaff MD

Glaucoma Fellow 2019-2020

Dr. Timothy Ratzlaff completed 3 years of a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria before being accepted into the University of British Columbia’s Island Medical Program. He completed his MD in 2014 and was then accepted into the Department of Ophthalmology residency program at Queen’s University, obtaining his FRCSC in 2019. Dr. Ratzlaff completed his fellowship in July 2020 in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma under the mentorship of Dr. Delan Jinapriya and Dr. Rob Campbell.

Isabella Irrcher  BSc, MSc, PhD

Research Director

Galen Eye Centre Dr. Irrcher is the author of several scientific articles appearing in the peer-reviewed literature including the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Cell Death and Differentiation, Human Molecular Genetics, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. A basic scientist by training, Dr. Irrcher comes to the Galen Eye Centre with a wealth of research experience in experimental design and methodology.  She is responsible for coordinating our clinical trials and facilitating research activities.  Dr. Irrcher has received numerous scholarships, grants and awards, including those from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), and the American Physiological Society.  Dr. Irrcher graduated with an MSc in Kinesiology (2001) and PhD in Biology (2007) from York University. Following her graduate work, Dr. Irrcher completed a CIHR-funded post-doctoral fellowship in Neurosciences at the University of Ottawa (2010).
